Allotment Competition - The Results are In
23rd July 2023
In: General News

The Melbourne Park Allotment Association competition was judged on 3rd July by our guest Amy Gill from RHS Hyde Hall. As usual there were two categories for the competition, for those Association members who have held a plot for less than 18 months, and then those members who have held their plot for over 18 months.

It proved to be a very close run event, with several members in the over 18 months scoring the same and tying for position, but undoubtedly a clear winner in the under 18 months category.
Our judge this year considered various aspects of the plots, from their general tidiness, wellbeing, range of crops and use of available space, to other items including any protection used from pest, re cycling for example rain water collection or composting, and environmental, which for example may have included bug or bee hotels.

There were a significant number of positive comments not just in terms of the winning plots, but also other plots, and we believe some take aways for Amy in terms of some ideas plot holders had put in place.
So the winners of the Under 18 months group
1st place Roseanna and Jonathon Anthony
2nd place Janos and Tundy Sandor
3rd place Saji Thomas & Rachel and Matthew Tingey
The winners of the over 18 months group
1st place - Darryl Mullinger and Karen Lawrence
2nd place - Peter Caffrey and Pat Tilley
3rd place - Joan Kama and Richard Harris
with Peter Hunnable and Ian Gill being Highly commended.
Our congratulations to all plot holders. The Trophies and certificates will be presented at the Annual Mulled Wine and mince pie morning on the first Saturday in December, which is a free event, so please do pencil this date into your diary.

A big thank you to our judge for this year, Amy Gill from RHS Hyde Hall, who gave up her valuable time and energy to consider our efforts, and even came back a few days later to make sure she was confident with her initial scoring and decisions.
